38 - Ego Elimination

Once Mama was doing Mission's work. He had to type a few pages. Mamas called one young man. He was explaining the young man how to type. Another young man was standing next to them. He spoke proudly, ‘Mama, please give it to me. I will get it typed.' Mama said, ‘This man will do it.' The young man insisted, ‘Mama, my typing speed is more. I also type very well. I will get it typed in a few minutes.' Mama said, ‘All right. You may get it typed.' Mama asked the first young man to wait there. The other young man thought, ‘Let me type it very fast and impress Mama.’ He was typing with such thoughts going on in his mind. He went to Mama with typed papers in a few minutes Mama said, ‘Oh! Have you finished so soon? Very good speed!' The young man was puffed up with joy. He spoke, ‘Yes Mama, my typing speed is very good.’ Mama, checked up the paper. He reacted immediately, ‘what is this? How have you typed this? There are no proper margins on both the sides.' The young man replied, ‘May be I did not notice it. But there won’t be any other mistakes.' Mama said, ‘Well! You have made a lot of spelling mistakes also. Who told you, you are good in typing?' The young man couldn’t speak a single word. He stood there looking down. Mama gave those papers to the first young man and instructed, ‘Go and type it properly. Doesn’t matter if it takes some time.' The first young man left with the papers. Mama turned towards the young man who had hurriedly typed the matter. He said, ‘Please sit down. You have made a lot of mistakes and wasted the papers also. You behaved out of ego. You wanted to prove him inferior to you. May be you type very well, but God does not like egoistic attitude. To destroy your ego, God did this to you. If we are qualified, we must use our quality for constructive purpose. We must not intent to show others as inferior to us. We should never be proud of our qualities.' The young man apologized, ‘Mama, I am sorry. God has punished me for my egoistic attitude. I wanted to please you.' Mama said, ‘Your intention was good, but it was mixed with pride.’ The young man promised, ‘Yes Mama, now I will never act out of vanity.' The young man bowed down to Mama. Mama blessed him. Today the young man had achieved real knowledge.
